Presentation in Monastier of “Drops of Well-being” by Domenico Basso in dialogue with Valentina Nespolo, director of “Il Nuovo Terraglio”

3 Mins read

“If these pages can, even for a moment, make you slow down, breathe deeply, smile at a puddle or a ray of sunshine, then this journey will have found its deepest meaning.” (D. Domenico Basso, “Drops of Well-being”)

Towards Tucogiò 2026: “The key to a new city”

The evening received full support from the municipal administration. The Mayor of Monastier, Paola Moro, who spoke to greet the attendees, emphasized the importance of regaining a sense of collective well-being, praising the qualitative leap of the Comitato Giro in Piazza in combining play with civic reflection.

The meeting served as a perfect preamble to Tucogiò 2026, presented by Giuliana Menegaldo, scheduled for the long weekend of Saturday, May 30, Sunday, May 31, and Monday, June 1 in the heart of Monastier. The festival, now in its 17th edition, will this year revolve around the theme “The key to a new city”, offering over 3 kilometers of playful-educational activities to stimulate active citizenship and the care of the common good.

The connection between the festival and the philosophy of walking will be very close. There are two running events in the Tucogiò program:

  • Saturday, May 30 (7:00 PM): The debut of the 1st Memorial Sammy Basso “We Are All Stars”, a charity running event in collaboration with the Italian Progeria Association and the Team of Stars.
  • Sunday, May 31 (7:30 AM): The traditional Benedictine Walk, to rediscover the territory at a slow pace and with a mindful gaze.
  • With an entire country ready to celebrate (thanks to the historic Via dei Palloncini and Via degli Ombrelli) and a strictly eco-sustainable and plastic free event , Monastier is preparing to welcome over 10,000 expected visitors. Because, as emerged from the evening with Domenico Basso, well-being is a positive contagion and sometimes, to find oneself, all it takes is a pair of comfortable shoes, a nearby path, and the mindset to listen.

“The journey levels us all, brings us back in touch with the bare earth, and reminds us of our own fragility, which is our greatest beauty.” With these intense words, read in front of a packed Multipurpose Hall, the success of the meeting with Domenico Basso was confirmed. The event, held on Tuesday, May 19, marked the official “baptism” of the Tucogiò 2026 project, the festival of invented, reworked, and rediscovered games that will animate Monastier at the end of the month.

MONASTIER (TREVISO). The journalist from Treviso, with forty years of experience in the world of radio and television information, spoke with Valentina Nespolo, director of Il Nuovo Terraglio, turning the presentation of his book “Drops of Well-being” into a collective reflection on the value of regained time.

    The Discovery of the Soul

Domenico Basso’s adventure with walking began almost as a game, or rather, out of “necessity”. “The doctor imposed the change on me – the author confessed with irony – who in 2016 told me to get a move on because my cholesterol needed some attention”. From that health obligation, a total passion for Nordic Walking was born, which led him to become an instructor and second-level technician.

Transitioning from the competitive solitude of tennis (his previous sport) to the shared journey of a group, the author has rediscovered humanity through the stories of doctors, lawyers, teachers, and drivers met along the way.

A diary-book that regenerates with the reader

The volume, divided into three macro areas Nature, Well-being, and Relationships , is uniquely structured: each brief reflection ends with a question and a blank page. “I conceived it so that the reader can write their thoughts. My dream is for it to become a replicable book and for thousands of words of well-being to be generated” , explained Basso, citing as ideal inspiration the Sillabari by Goffredo Parise and the modern necessity to rediscover emotions in relation to ideologies.

During the evening, the audience was actively engaged and invited to share their keywords. Among the testimonies, a dawn walker chose “enchantment” and “wonder” , recounting the magic of stepping out into the darkness in winter to see the sun rise. The extraordinary social value of local walking groups (active in Monastier since 2013) also emerged , essential as an antidote to loneliness for elderly people.
