The memory of the Great War returns to the forefront in San Biagio di Callalta with the second edition of the cultural event “The Battle of the Solstice. Images, words, memory,” an initiative promoted by the Municipality’s Department of Culture. This unique cultural journey intertwines history, literature, and deep civic reflection, offering the community two significant appointments hosted in symbolic places of the territory, to remember the events that have marked our past.
SAN BIAGIO DI CALLALTA (TV). The event, now in its second edition, aims to keep the historical memory of the Great War alive, particularly the Battle of the Solstice, a crucial event that has left an indelible mark on the territory and in the collective consciousness. The goal is to enhance the local cultural and historical heritage while providing universal reflections on the themes of war and peace.
The first appointment is set for Friday, June 12, 2026, at 8:30 PM, at the Skholè Cultural Center, located at Via Postumia Centro, 65. The event, free of charge, will feature the presentation of the book “Spy at the Front“, published by Piazza Editore and written by local author Mauro Trevisan. The author will engage in a dialogue with Pietro Ventura, a respected member of the San Biagio Great War Committee, guiding the audience on a fascinating journey through the pages of an intense and engaging historical novel. Trevisan’s book stands out for its ability to combine action and narrative tension with a rigorous historical reconstruction, shedding light on an often-overlooked aspect of the First World War: the crucial, albeit little-known, role of military intelligence personnel. These characters, operating in the shadows, played fundamental roles in the outcome of the conflict, and their stories deserve to be told and understood.
The second event, “Poems for Peace“, will take place on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at 7:30 PM, at the evocative Military Shrine of Fagarè della Battaglia. This literary and musical reading has also been included in the prestigious event “Veneto, a poem from dawn to dusk 2026,” thanks to the sponsorship of the Veneto Region, highlighting its cultural significance. The initiative, organized in close collaboration with the renowned Teatro dei Pazzi, will be entirely dedicated to the theme of peace. In an era characterized by fears, anger, and widespread conflicts, “Poems for Peace” aims to be an authentic and necessary response. Through the power of words, profound literary reflections, the beauty of poetry, and the emotion of live music, the audience will be taken on an introspective journey that invites them to rediscover authentic peace. A peace that, as suggested by the organizers, must first be born and rooted within each of us, manifesting in thoughts, words, and daily actions, before radiating into the community.
The Municipal Councillor for Culture, Elena Pagotto, emphasized the importance of this initiative: «The choice of the Pillon Administration to remember the Battle of the Solstice represents a valuable opportunity to enhance the historical memory of our territory through different languages accessible to all. The goal is to pay tribute to those who fought here along the Piave, giving their lives for the Fatherland.» The Councillor added: «This is why on one hand we will have the reconstruction of little-known events of the Great War and on the other a current and universal reflection on the theme of peace. These are two appointments that invite the community to pause, listen, and delve deeper to rediscover the value of culture as a tool for knowledge and dialogue.»
