The Ditelo sui Tetti associative network expresses full satisfaction for the approval in the Senate of the bill promoted by the Minister of Education and Merit Giuseppe Valditara on informed consent prior to school activities addressing issues related to sexuality
ROME. “This is a measure that recognizes and values a fundamental principle of our legal system: the primary educational role of the family, as established by Article 30 of the Constitution,” declares Domenico Menorello, coordinator of the Network.
“The regulation does not introduce prohibitions nor limit the freedom of teaching or the proposal of school projects; it simply provides that in the presence of activities related to the theme of sexuality, families are to be informed in advance about the content covered and any external parties involved.” – says Elena Fruganti, Education Coordinator of the Network – “The approved measure goes in the direction of transparency, educational co-responsibility, and dialogue. A strong school does not fear the involvement of parents but considers it an essential resource.”
For the Ditelo sui Tetti Network, prior informed consent represents a concrete tool to fully implement the educational alliance between family and school, a principle long established by school regulations and the foundation of the Educational Co-responsibility Pact.
“This is a vision recently reiterated by Pope Leo XIV in his encyclical Magnifica Humanitas,” continue Menorello and Fruganti, “who emphasized that parents have the ‘primary and inalienable right to choose the type of education and training to provide for their children, in accordance with their moral, cultural, and religious beliefs.’ This statement does not oppose family and school, but rather enhances their collaboration while respecting each other’s competencies.”
Being informed does not mean imposing a particular vision on the school, but being able to clearly understand what is being offered to one’s children.
