Renewed the contribution to accessibility projects in the Municipality of Venice. Councillors Roma and Ruzza, “We accept the challenge of ensuring accessibility in Venice for people with reduced mobility”
Venice – Ensuring the accessibility of a complex and unique city in the world, such as Venice, for everyone, including those with mobility difficulties, is a challenge that the Veneto Region intends to continue investing in. And not only that.
The regional assessor for Social Affairs, Paola Roma, thus announces the approval with a resolution of the Regional Council, in agreement with the assessor for Mobility and Transport Diego Rizza, of the contribution to the project “Accessibility in Venice – year 2026” proposed by the Municipality of Venice.
“This is also an opportunity to launch an important message from the capital of Veneto in favor of accessibility and inclusivity in our territories and cities for the benefit of all, including those who, due to advanced age or other reasons, find themselves facing a situation of reduced mobility.
This is, after all, the same objective confirmed with the extension of the measures related to the Disability Card established by a decree of the President of the Republic, which allocates 1.6 million euros to ensure the continuity of the service during the period from June to December 2026. An important measure because the European Disability Card allows for the identification of people with disabilities and access to free or reduced-cost services for transport, culture, leisure, and other benefits useful for promoting their rights, contributing to the full inclusion of people with disabilities in the social life of communities,” said assessor Paola Roma.
The economic commitment
The allocation is 200 thousand euros. The aim is to expand and integrate the existing transportation service for people with disabilities within the historic center of Venice and the islands, also for non-residents and during hours that are not yet covered.
The project “Accessibility in Venice – year 2026” proposes the provision of a transportation system with equipped vehicles both on water and on land, along with a personalized accompaniment service that may include two operators, aimed at people with disabilities or reduced mobility, as well as elderly individuals with loss of autonomy. It also includes the availability of specific aids to address the architectural barriers present in the Venetian territory.
“The Region continues its commitment to ensuring accessible mobility solutions in a complex and unique urban context like that of Venice,” adds the Councillor for Mobility and Transport, Diego Ruzza. “Through an integrated system of water and land transport, supported by personalized escort services, the Region aims to structurally strengthen the entire mobility offer, improving its reach, continuity, and reliability. The goal is to effectively respond to a real need that concerns residents and visitors, contributing to making the city increasingly inclusive, usable, and connected.”
