Exactly two years from the opening ceremony, the countdown for the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles has officially begun
LOS ANGELES (UNITED STATES) – Exactly two years remain until the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028. The countdown to the next Olympics has officially begun, which will take place for the third time in history on Californian soil after the editions of 1932 and 1984.
On July 14, 2028, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum will become the first venue in history to host events for three editions of the Olympic Games. The athletics events will take place in the first week, while swimming will be held at the Inglewood Stadium in the second. These two venues will also jointly feature in the Opening Ceremony.
The first will also be the stage for the Closing Ceremony on July 30, 2028.

The 34th summer edition of the Games features 36 disciplines and 353 events, 161 female, 166 male, and 26 mixed, 22 more than Paris 2024.
For the first time, there will be slightly more female athletes (50.3%) than male athletes (49.7%). Of the total 11,198 athletes, 5,635 will be women and 5,563 will be men. Another novelty is that all team sports will have at least the same number of female and male teams, with water polo adding two female teams, bringing the total to 12. Soccer will have a greater number of female teams, 16 compared to 12 male teams.
With the addition of the five sports proposed by the Organizing Committee of LA28 (baseball/softball, cricket, flag football, lacrosse, and squash), the base quota of 10,500 athletes has been increased by an additional 698 units.
There will also be the introduction of new mixed events in archery, athletics (mixed 4×100 m relay), golf, gymnastics, rowing (coastal beach sprint), and table tennis
