3 Mins read

The community of Campocroce, a district of Mogliano Veneto, is preparing to experience a moment of deep gathering and remembrance, renewing one of the most heartfelt and participated traditions. On Sunday, July 19, the spotlight will be on the third edition of the “La Gabbia” five-a-side football tournament, a sporting event that this year takes on an even more poignant meaning, being dedicated to the memory of Nico Zane, a respected former municipal councilor from Mogliano, who passed away prematurely on June 9, 2024.

MOGLIANO VENETO (TV). This event, now in its final stages, is not just a sports competition, but an authentic celebration of life and civic commitment of a person who left an indelible mark on the social and administrative fabric of Mogliano Veneto, and particularly of Campocroce.

Nico Zane, during his term on the City Council, which took place in the early administrative period of Mayor Davide Bortolato and with his election on the civic list “Davide Bortolato Sindaco,” distinguished himself for his dedication and ability to listen. His figure was deeply connected to the district of Campocroce, of which he passionately and concretely acted as a spokesperson. His commitment focused on issues of vital importance for the daily lives of citizens, ranging from the care of the districts to traffic management, from the redevelopment of sports facilities to the enhancement of essential services for families and, above all, for young people. These areas, often neglected or underestimated, found in Zane a careful promoter and a resolute defender of the community’s interests.

Among the projects he was most involved in and for which he dedicated significant effort, the extension of the public transport line to Treviso, extending it to Campocroce, stands out. This forward-thinking and strategic initiative represented a fundamental step in improving the connectivity of the district, facilitating the movements of residents, particularly students and workers, and contributing to a greater integration of Campocroce with the capital and surrounding areas. A work that testifies to his vision of a more accessible and functional community, attentive to the practical needs of its inhabitants.

At the same time, Nico Zane strongly supported initiatives aimed at the redevelopment and improvement of the sports facilities in Campocroce. His vision was clear: he considered these spaces not only as places dedicated to physical activity but as true pillars for the healthy and harmonious growth of young people and for the vitality of the entire community. He firmly believed in the educational and social value of sports, capable of teaching discipline, teamwork, and respect, fundamental values for the formation of young citizens. It is precisely in this context, that of the sports field, that the “La Gabbia” tournament takes on an even deeper meaning. It becomes the privileged space where friends, former fellow administrators, players, and ordinary citizens can gather, share their passion for sports, and, at the same time, honor the memory of Nico Zane, perpetuating his ideals and his love for the community.

Mayor Davide Bortolato, with words full of emotion and respect, wanted to emphasize the legacy left by Nico Zane: «Nico left a deep mark on our Administration and throughout Campocroce. He was a concrete, generous person, always available, capable of listening to the needs of the district and transforming them into proposals and projects. This tournament represents the most authentic way to remember him: being together, building community, and giving space to young people through sports.» The Mayor’s words paint the portrait of a man of action, whose generosity was not limited to intentions but translated into tangible initiatives and concrete projects, always at the service of the common good. His ability to listen was a rare and precious gift that allowed him to grasp the real needs of the population and translate them into effective solutions.

The “La Gabbia” tournament, therefore, stands as a symbol of this legacy. It is not just a simple sporting event, but a crossroads of values: the passion for football, the importance of community ties, the memory of an exemplary figure, and the investment in the future of young people. Through play and sharing, the community of Campocroce demonstrates its desire to keep the memory of Nico Zane alive not through mere commemoration, but through the continuation of his spirit of service and aggregation. The atmosphere of the Campocroce Festival, with its intrinsic ability to bring together people of all ages, provides the ideal backdrop for an event that celebrates life, sports, and a sense of belonging.
