Reading waves

The project “Waves of Reading. The Coastal Cities Read,” promoted by the Municipality of Jesolo as the lead partner along with the municipalities of Caorle, Cavallino-Treporti, and Chioggia, ranked second nationally in the “Cities that Read 2025” call,
receiving a funding of 45,000 euros from the Center for Books and Reading (CEPELL) of the Ministry of Culture.

Jesolo – “Waves of Reading. Coastal Cities Read”, a call aimed at municipalities with the qualification “City that Reads” has achieved second place in the national ranking for the cities of Jesolo, Caorle, Cavallino-Treporti, and Chioggia.

The call aimed to support projects capable of promoting books and reading through territorial networks involving libraries, schools, cultural associations, and other local entities, with the goal of creating local ecosystems favorable to reading and making the practice of reading increasingly widespread and accessible.

The project presented by the four municipalities Jesolo, Caorle, Cavallino-Treporti, and Chioggia, arises from the desire to build a stable collaboration among the libraries of the Venetian coast, transforming the common characteristics of the coastal areas – the strong connection to the sea and marked seasonality – into an opportunity for shared cultural growth.

The sea thus becomes the common thread of a journey that unites the promotion of reading, environmental awareness, and
community participation.

The second place

“Waves of Reading” features a rich program of initiatives spread across the four municipalities: public readings, workshops, reading groups, summer camps, podcasts, participatory installations, meetings with schools and associations, and activities hosted not only in libraries but also in squares, beaches, markets, parks, and other everyday places, with particular attention to inclusion, accessibility, and the involvement of all segments of the population.

The initiative is also based on a network of collaboration involving educational institutions, scientific organizations, cultural associations, and the third sector, with the aim of consolidating a model of cooperation among the four municipalities that can
continue even beyond the duration of the funding and become a good practice that can be replicated in other coastal contexts.

the leader of a network that unites Jesolo, Caorle, Cavallino-Treporti, and Chioggia is a source of satisfaction and confirms the value of collaboration among administrations that share a common vision.

“Waves of Reading” will bring books and opportunities for meeting in everyday life locations, making reading increasingly accessible and close to people, both residents and visitors, while enhancing the identity of our coastal territory.”
