Tourism, good performance for summer 2026: campsites and mountains in the spotlight

3 Mins read

On Ferragosto, positive data across all sectors. In June, over 2.6 million arrivals and 9.8 million presences were recorded. Pavanetto: “A solid season, driven by international visitors”

VENICE – The 2026 tourist summer is proving positive for Veneto, with good occupancy levels across all major sectors and particularly significant growth for campsites and mountain resorts. A preliminary assessment of the season is provided by the Vice President of the Region and Tourism Councillor, Lucas Pavanetto, based on the data available after mid-August.

During the week from August 10 to 16, the best results were achieved by campsites, which reached an occupancy rate of 94.6% in seaside resorts and 87.8% at the Lake. Following are the seaside hotels, with 88.2%, and those by the Lake, with 86.7%.

The Mountain stands at 82.8%, while the Spas reach an overall occupancy of 70.3%, continuing their positive trend. The Art Cities register 65.4%, a figure consistent with the physiological decline affecting urban destinations during the central period of August.

According to Pavanetto, the numbers show a growth lead for the Mountain and a lower incidence of last-minute bookings in destinations characterized by higher temperatures. A trend that may have been influenced by the particularly intense heat.

“The outcome of August, considering the economic component as well, remains solid across all clusters – emphasizes the vice president – and represents the final piece of a season, that of 2026, which opened with very encouraging and growing numbers compared to 2025.”

Good prospects also for the end of August

The updated forecasts confirm favorable prospects also for the concluding part of the month. The estimated employment figures as of August 31 are very close to the consolidated levels of 2025 for the Thermal Baths and campsites by the Sea, while in the Art Cities those levels have already been reached.

The Mountain also shows a good ability to hold, with a stable situation already outlined for the entire first half of September.

The provisional data from the Regional Statistical System of Veneto (SISTAR) overall describe a solid summer season. The month of June closed with over 2.6 million arrivals and 9.8 million presences.

Driving growth is primarily the international component, with over 1.8 million arrivals, accounting for more than 70% of the total, and 7.1 million overnight stays.

First half of the year: arrivals and stays increase

In the first half of 2026, tourist flows increased compared to the same period of the previous year. Arrivals rose by 0.6%, while overnights recorded an increase of 1.6%, continuing the results of 2025 and the positive trend of recent years.

The most significant growth was recorded in the Lakes area, followed by Mountains and Art Cities. The Sea remained largely stable, while the Spas showed a decline.

The slight decrease in Italian visitors has been offset by the increase in international flows, which recorded a +1.7% in arrivals and a +3.1% in stays. Among the foreign markets that are growing the most are the German market, with a +4.8%, the American market with a +6.4%, the British market with a +8%, and the Dutch market with a +10.3%.

Sea on your mind between late July and early August

The data from the Federated Regional Tourism Observatory of Veneto and the hospitality data from HBenchmark, processed in collaboration with Federalberghi Veneto and Faita Veneto, confirm the leadership of beach destinations.

Between the end of July and the beginning of August, the Sea recorded occupancy levels exceeding 85% in hotels, while campsites surpassed 92% already at the beginning of the month.

The results from the Lake are also good, with an 87.8% in the hotel sector and about 88% in open-air facilities. The Mountains increased from 70% at the end of July to 75% in the first week of August, while the Spas rose from 52 to 58% in the same period. The Art Cities maintained a stable occupancy around 70% in both weeks considered.

Flights: United States and China Grow

On the front of air connections to Venice, in the months of July and August 2026, the United States leads the booking rankings, with a growth of 14.2% compared to the same period in 2025. Spain and Italy follow.

Particularly significant is the increase in bookings from China, which rose by 59.8%. The result may be linked to the launch, in July 2026, of the new direct flight Beijing-Venice.

Lake Garda first for tourist spending

Mastercard data for the month of July places the Lake Garda in first place for economic weight on the total regional transactions, with a share of 18%. Following are Venice with about 14%, Jesolo with 12%, Verona with 10%, and Treviso with about 8.5%.

The international market accounts for 61% of total spending, while the domestic market represents the remaining 39%.

In July, the spending of tourists and hikers in Veneto increased by 23% compared to June and by 6% compared to the same period in 2025.

“It’s a trend that confirms how the heart of the summer season is strongly driving not only visitor flows but also spending,” observes Pavanetto.

Visitor satisfaction at 86.3 out of 100

The analyses of Data Appeal Mabrian on the sentiment and online reputation of Venetian destinations, referring to the period between the beginning of July and the beginning of August 2026, indicate a good level of satisfaction.

The regional average actually reaches 86.3 points out of 100, with a slight upward trend in all tourism sectors.

Visitors particularly appreciate attractions related to historical and natural heritage, including castles, parks, lakes, and landscapes. Positive reviews also concern the dining options, typical food and wine, the location of the facilities, hospitality, and the competence of the staff.

There are still some margins for improvement regarding the overcrowding of the most well-known locations and services such as Wi-Fi connection, accessibility, and costs.
