EDMONTON (CANADA) – A spectacular finale for the Italian national team in triathlon. On the final day of the World Cup stage in Edmonton (Canada), the mixed relay (300 meters of swimming, 6.8 km of cycling, and 1.8 km of running) made up of Paola Sacchi, Miguel Espuna Larramona, Beatrice Mallozzi, and Euan De Nigro wins the first historic gold in a competition of the highest international circuit.
A success that goes beyond the sporting achievement, as it brings valuable points for qualification for the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, improving the silver medal won a month ago in Quiberon (France) during the transalpine event of the World Triathlon Championship Series.
An unforgettable race for the blues, with Sacchi, third in the women’s sprint challenge on Saturday, Espuna Larramona, Mallozzi, and De Nigro starring in all four race segments. It was the latter who fought in the last kilometer and eight hundred meters of the race against France, United States, and Canada, finishing ahead of everyone with a total time of 1h22’17”.
According to the Canada home team with Sidney Clement, Tyler Mislawchuk, Isla Britton, and Martin Sobey (1h22’24”), while France finished third with Lea Coninx, Baptiste Passemard, Candice Denizot, and Nathan Grayel (1h22’34”).
USA finished fourth with Naomi Ruff, Reese Vannerson, Michelle Magnani, and Sullivan Middaugh in 1h22’40”, hindered by a penalty they incurred in the last leg of the fourth runner, which prevented them from competing for podium spots in the final race.
